Hi, I’m Linda! I am a writer, photographer, comic and truth-teller. I currently live in the greater Indianapolis area, but I am originally from the Quad Cities, on the Iowa side of the Mississippi River. My dad’s job moved us to Columbus, Ohio when I was 10, and then to Indiana 3 ½ years later. I attended Purdue University (go Boilers!) to study marketing and accounting, and my first job was with a not-for-profit in the student loan industry. For the past 28 years, I’ve been working a corporate finance job in the travel industry.
We took family vacations when I was a kid, including an epic 3-week trip out west the summer I turned 4. In fact, my 4th birthday was spent at Disneyland, and I have a distinct memory of standing next to Mickey Mouse to have my picture taken. With tears streaming down my face. (Hey, it was a giant, adult-sized mouse…tell me you wouldn’t have been scared of that at 4 years old!)
As the youngest kid in my family, and with my two older brothers out of the house by the time I was 12, I took a lot of trips with my parents…especially to Florida for spring break. Many years later, my folks bought a timeshare on the Gulf Coast and I still go there every year to relax and rejuvenate. There is nothing like walking on the beach and watching the sunset over the water.
Working in the travel industry has its perks. I took my first solo vacation when I was 28, and I was hooked. Travel has been a big part of my adult life, and I’ve been lucky that my job has sent me on some fantastic international trips. Travel also ramped up my interest in photography. I have had a camera since I was a kid, but traveling has sharpened my eye and led to an interest in botanic gardens and architecture, and my photos not only capture my adventures but engage my creative side as well.
I’ve also been writing off and on over the years. Recently, I had begun describing myself as a non-writing writer, so I decided that starting a blog would be a great way to get back into writing and explore my various interests. In deciding what to call my blog, I was thinking about how my life has seemed, at times, like a series of accidents, so maybe it was time to just be Linda, on purpose. With that, LindaOnPurpose was born.
So, although I’m still working my corporate job, I’m leaning into a more meaningful life. Come along with me as I take my accidentally intentional journey.
